March - Ros Standly

Some of you will have already heard this sad news - I am sorry to have to report that Ros died yesterday of a heart attack.

As you know, she was a former member of our committee representing the Priory Trustees.

She was also a past Town Mayor and a member of East Herts District Council.  She was very well known in the town and involved with several local organisations including Age Concern of which she was the current President.

2019

Sylvia Hovell retires as Secretary of the Friends’ of Ware Priory Committee after 24 years.

The photo shows Sylvia with other committee members at the recent (2019) AGM which is the

last she will attend as Secretary.

Sylvia has been the Secretary of Friends of Ware Priory since its inception in 1995.  Our Chairman, Mrs Janet Parkin, paid tribute to Sylvia saying she “has been the life and soul of Friends and its driving force. Twenty-four years is a long time and during that time Sylvia has seen many, many changes. She has worked successfully with several Town Council administrations which hasn’t always been easy but she has never shirked a challenge and has not usually taken ‘no’ for an answer when trying, on Friends’ behalf, to get something done for the Priory.”  Mrs Parkin also thanked Sylvia for her great help and support to her in her time as Chairman which has made her job so much easier.

We are pleased that Sylvia will remain as a committee member so the Friends will still be able to benefit from her experience and valuable input.  Her successor as Secretary is Mrs. Jo Horridge who said “ I realise they big shoes to fill, but I will do my best”.

In appreciation, the committee presented Sylvia with a photo album recording events over the years from 1995 to 2019 and a special treat – a voucher for a champagne afternoon tea for two at Hanbury Manor.
